Rome, Italy

The city of Rome offers many out-of-the-way parks and gardens in which you can join hundreds of locals in working out.  Getting around Rome is easy with the tram and bus system, and when all else fails, taking a taxi to run one of these routes is definitely worth it.

These routes were taken from the March 2007 issue of Runner's World magazine in the On The Road section (page 25).

Villa Borghese Loop - 3.11 miles

This loop runs through the famous Villa Borghese, along soft trails and through open fields.  Beat the heat and pollution of the city and escape to this green paradise in the north of Rome.  Click here for detailed directions and an interactive map.

Villa Ada Loop - 3.56 miles

This scenic route winds its way up a hill to the Forte Antenne, an ancient fortification of a city conquered by the Romans.  Enjoy the history and scenery on soft trails among other joggers.  For detailed directions and an interactive map, click here.

Pamphili Gardens Loop - 5.19 miles

The Villa Doria Pamphili is Rome's largest park.  Located on the western side of the city (between Trastevere and the Vatican), the park offers acres of open space and soft trails.  This loop takes you on a simple out-and-back course that traverses the park for an easy 5 miles.  Click here for detailed directions and an interactive map.
